Egalitarianism is concerned with improving the lot of the lowest levels, "raising the Lowest Common Denominator." For example, political philosopher John Rawls argued that inequality of income under an economic system is not bad as long as the minimal outcome saw improvement under the system (i.e. "maximize the minimum").
