The minimum legal age of marriage in the USA should be set to _ years old
16 is acceptable.
Maybe only people within 20% of the younger ones age of that person is under 20 or something if you are worried about old weirdos, but the parents of the younger partner should be the one to stop that from happening.
@shortstories - I would build society around the family unit. The family is served by a wife/mother only having one partner. This partner should be her husband. Fucking is what causes babies to be born.
So it stands to reason, that the age of marriage should be set to whenever girls start fucking.
I would put the average of that age at 14 in the US.
@shortstories - I once looked up the age of the virgin Mary when she was supposed to have been knocked up by God.
Unsurprisingly, I couldn't find a source. But she was supposed to have been betrothed to Joseph at the time, and he was bringing her to his homeland when it was supposed to have happened.
But cultural practices of the time and place, would put the Virgin Mary at about 14.

The Caetchism of the council of trent set the age of marriage as 12 for girls and 14 for boys
Judaism sets the age of betrothsl at 0 for girls and for consumating the marriage at three years old
Although Orthodox Jews say that before about three years old it is no big deal like sticking a finger in the eye that causes tears and crying but heals back just fine
I am opposed to the Jewish standard and opposed to illegal marriages that violate the current law
In the Christian Old and New Testament there are passages that might imply certain qualities permitting or forbidding a marriage but those qualities are not a certain number of years
Some passages might imply in the view of some scholars a certain level of physical or mental maturity that is correlated with age but do not list a specific age
As such unlike Jewish writings the Christian Old Testament does not endorse toddler marriage
I oppose people doing illegal underage marriages
@shortstories Personally I don't think the government has any right to dictate marriage laws. It's a religious thing at its core, not a legal one.
