The benefit of paper and pencil RPG is you can have characters do things that the programmers did not think of in computer RPGs
For the most part I try to have a lower and lower percent of my video game play be RPG because I just end up being addicted to playing a lot of hours to increase the stats and it does not rely on developing skill as much as other computer games
I think the skill based computer games are better for my brain in general with some exceptions
