I'm listening to this guy talk about what kinds of projects junior developers should do for their portfolios and he's basically saying don't be a junior developer

expecting a junior to solo build a full stack application that "solves a real world problem" and looks good and has active users and and and and and and... is fuckin crazy and a symptom of a severely over-saturated field

the industry is packed with people with significant professional experience who can't do that level of work

You know there are specific certificates that require a bachelor degree in anything that allow you to work in a field not related to your bachelor degree

I would imagine a lot of people with computer science bachelor degrees might work in outside fields

Also some guy made Ancient Domains of Mystery as a free game for years then started selling an upgraded version with better graphics while still providing a free game

You could make your own products & sell them
