After years in the criminal world, "Isaac" wants to leave gang life behind. But despite over a hundred job applications, which SVT chooses to highlight in an article.
An article on SVT highlights how a gang criminal is constantly prepared to die – or kill. At the same time, it is believed that the man called ”Isaac”, dreams of an ordinary life, free from gang violence and crime.
"Isak", whose real name is something else, grew up in Gothenburg and has been a criminal since high school. When classmates began to ask if he could arrange drugs, he saw a chance to earn money.
I saw there was a demand. That's how I got in, and after that I was stuck, " he says.
Elderly people in the area supplied him with drugs and soon he became part of the gang environment – which in Sweden mostly consists of overseas immigrants. He was given a special telephone for the shops and fixed times for sales.
- It's fucked up, really dirty. That's the world I live in, he says.
They say they want to leave the gang.
After years of violence, threats and constant stress, ”Isaac” now claims that he is trying to leave gang life behind. He says he lives with a threat image and often carries weapons to protect himself.
- I want to live a normal Swedish life. There is nothing to pick up in this life. "You either die or you go to jail," he said.
But SVT believes that the way out of serious crime and violence is difficult. Despite over a hundred job applications, he has not received a single employment. "Isaac" himself says that he understands that no one wants to hire someone who is a serious criminal.
- I understand that people like me are not taken in, but what should I do if no one wants to give me the chance?
