The English Royal family dominated United Kingdom just like the game Civilation 1 when you select communism than the farther away from your capital the more likely the city is to go into civil unrest if it does not starve to reduce it's population enough to prevent civil unrest.
Because the countries were so far away from Britain they had trouble ruling them when they selected communism, But Britain could still rule some nearby territories on the English Islands
