I consider The Guardian to be a relatively reliable source, and the story looks credible.
Traveling to the USA as a tourist doesn't appear to be a safe thing to do: one can get into the hands of corrupt ICE goons.
I work for a multi-national company, but I will refuse to go on a business trip to the USA, e.g., for consulting with customers or colleagues, even if the Visa Waiver Program rules say it's OK.
The Republican Party's USA isn't safe.
