they have their own dna, yes
that dna is entirely derived from maternal mitochondria, with no contribution of paternal mitochondria, yes
but the mitochondrial dna's role in energy production is secondary at best. certainly the precise sequence is not super relevant.

so the answer to your question is nothing. unfertilized eggs without mtdna probably die quick, making it so viable embryos universally keep mtdna, even though onky one cell line in one half of the population will ever need it.
