I just do not like computer role playing games for the most part anymore
I do not have time for inventory management and repetitive actioins to gain skills, attributes and levels
If the game plot has some interesting story then I can just watch a movie or tv show based on the game or video clips of the game cut scenes
Some of the solutions to point and click adventure games make no sense and you can just watch a let's play instead of clicking on random things in a random order
I was very specific about computer RPGs
Role playing games with humans allow more choices and can be an interesting thinking exercise
Also there are some turn based cRPGs that can be about certain strategy or tactics or motor control skills if they are not turn based
But what annoys me is when it is jist being repetitive without learning new real life thinking or motor control skills
Just something based on skill but not time nor money but then it is probably called tactics or strategy or action or puzzle and not RPG
Although there are skills involved in learning how to improve a characters stats and inventory a lot more per time in some computer RPGs
In daggerfall you can become over powered in very little game play time where you basicly can not die of almost anything other than falling with the right regeneration spell and the right customised class
Table top RPGs are only good if the game master knows how to go off script and improvise in ways that do not follow an original premade script created by a big corporation with only a limited number of options no greater than the computer RPG
If the number of options is the same or less than in the computer RPG then at least the computer RPG is faster
I argue that RPGs, for the most part, have never been any different to that, and MMORPGs are especially bad culprits.
The notable exception being Neverwinter Nights, which I still need to get running. (Actually at this point it would probably be quicker for me to shit out something similar in godot. Because the godot editor is a godot game, I could potentially just mod it to support networking, have it connect as the GM, and then the players would just be some simple isometric thing with the ability to reload scenes upon request.)
