I was too caught up in the "socio-economic factors" question, and I overlooked the important part: SALMON.

Norwegians are huge in the salmon trade. They made a big effort to convince japs that salmon was good for sushi, because traditionally they would never eat raw salmon because pacific salmon had a ton of parasites. Sooooo maybe they have a point with the Argentine salmon trade, but they probably also have a financial interest in it as well.

@shortstories @MeBigbrain I once watched a Japanese show where the host pauses to eat a local place some fish that's almost sushi. They explain they need to sear it on both sides because the skin is full of parasites so they need a few seconds of fire to kill them off. Then they serve him the fish with the skin. :loli_speechless:
