What did they used to call, "virtue signalling" before that term became common in the English language?

There is probably some term for it in Bible translations

1 Timothy 5:13 talks about women going around from house to house gossipping with idle chit chat or something similar to that

now males can do that also but I would suggest females could afford to do that more often

Jesus gave a lot of Sermons about the problem of virtue signalling to Pharisees without using that English terminology
