It seems like most modern African writing systems to write modern African languages are written in either Latin or Arabic letters

I guess writing was not very common with commoners in most African regions until Europeans & Arabs visited

Both Latin and Arabic writing systems might trace to Egypt which is the part of Africa close to Europe and Asia
