Asking random developers to use random LLMs they never used before is a dumb experiment...

...but like many experiments to prove how dumb AI is, it's skewed against the machine.

It took me about 8 months and two LLM model upgrades to start #vibecoding semi-effectively.

It's like asking virgins what's their favourite sex position is.
🙄

Edit: After it was pointed out how terribly wrong I am. I am amending my post.
1) The coders were "moderate" users so, not virgins, but lower end body count 😁

2) The question itself. 'How fast were they'. Is that the criteria these days? How fast you code? Or how few bugs there are? How stable your code? How good the algo.
Did you stop beating your wife.

3) The tasks were debugging, which as we know is harder than creating new code.

Not good, not excellent, I'd like to see more than 19 and also the raw data.

Hopefully the people who are into #VibeCoding will start to experiment with Vibe Eating and Vibe Crossing The Street.

PSA for #vibecoding fans

LLMs often cheat and forget to put things in code or put things in that are redundant.

always check the code after it seems to be working to make sure it's actually doing all the proper checks and not performing redundant work that will slow things down and gum up the memory.

The #vibecoding struggle hit me hard last night and I nuked the music app I was building but the new one is much nicer and cleaner.

This was populated by parsing the PodRolls in maybe 4 of @sirtjthewrathful's RSS feeds and just adding that content to the site.

It's just spread out and built itself from the data in the feeds. It's all there we just need better ways of showing it to people.

I watched someone "vibe code" for an hour and now I think "slot machine coding" is a more appropriate name. "Let us pull the lever again and see if the code gets better with this prompt."

LESSON 1: when you're paying to get the machine to code, you better think carefully about how you prompt it and the architecture of your commands. (aka, learn a #devs mindset) #vibecoding

This #vibecoding stuff is fun but man it takes a mental toll but I made my app a little smoother. Auto play should work now. That took loner than it needed so I didn't test if lightning payments are working which I broken yesterday but thanks to the guys at @4657dfe8 for answering my question today. Great guys over there making this PC 2.0 happen.

I'm just going to lay here in bed and see if auto play works for now and see what I can break and fix tomorrow.

Alex Gleason and the Soapbox team is building some cool stuff with AI and Nostr that I think we can take advantage of. MKStacks is what started me on this caffeine fueled obsession.

I know Nostr :( but I'm too dumb to know or care about why it's bad/good but it works for this PC 2.0 #vibecoding shill. o7

and Shakespeare adds a nice UI to it and has a free version you can test out.

Do devs capable of 'hand-coding' for 8 hours a day exist?

I'd say I'm a driven & relatively smart dude but even vibecoding & prompting precisely becomes draining after 4-6 hours per day. Once I'm all out of vibes I switch to work that requires less thinking and I can easily do that for another 4-6 hours .. but what kind of monster do you have to be to do 8 hours of laser-focus 'hand-coding' per day?

Do such devs exist or is it more like 4 hours laser-focus and then 4 hours of changing button colors?

seems that people are curious to see what jetbrains junie does, so here is a screenie of it currently working to fix the tests on the nip-05 library that i forked from fiatjaf

all the front end devs got all giddy about #vibecoding but they lack a substantial advantage that us back end devs have, when using AI tools (coding agents) - we don't need to click buttons and scroll and this and that to check everything is correct.

you all front end devs have yet to see that invention. i'm sure it's coming,

meanwhile, i'm going to graduate to becoming a full stack dev now, because i have the time.

well first two attempts to do something with Jetbrains Junie using typescript/svelt was a bust. for whatever reason, and i even installed firefox (i need to go get the priest splash me with holy water after this, zorin comes with brave) nope, for whatever reason, the robot couldn't make a javascript either.

but it was happy to make a native flutter app. i'm like. :rewinds jaw: ok, this is good.

am i #vibecoding the right way now?

FUCK WEB BROWSERS btw. just sayin.
