@Mongoliaboo Perhaps that is the cause of much of it in common parlance, but even listening to The Magic Flute or the Messiah, I prefer male singers to female singers.
That extends to boys too. The canonical case in point for me will always be Bach's St Matthews Passion.
The most moving parts are the choruses and chorales where the boys choir cuts through.
Unfortunately, over the last 30 years or so it has been fashionable to use adult women and girls to voice these parts and frankly it ruins the whole performance.
I love a good soprano as much as the next man, but stop messing with Bach's intention, arrghh!!
