You are thinking of some subgroups of Roman Catholicism or perhaps Roman Catholicism in general

Christianity does not endorse suffering as something to do to get rewards or to get out of punishment or something that is morally admirable to choose to inflict on oneself

Christianity admires people who are willing to do what is morally right even if doing what is morally right results in suffering fof the person who does what is morally right

At least how I understand it

@shortstories I love being told core truths of our faith by outsiders. I couldn't give 1 shit what someone who never believed, or an apostate, says. It's always one of a handful of reasons.

In the end, it comes down to arrogance, and a refusal to believe that believers could actually be someone with real intelligence and great reasoning skills who might just have more info and better understanding.

If they aren't searching in earnest, especially, I don't bother. They sure like to bash, though.
