Random thought here:
What happened to all the fireflies? I remember they were around during spring and summer. It was neat to see them all around the backyard, at night.
Lots of bugs are gone. I remember driving at night in summer and there were bugs on the radiator and windshield. Almost never see that anymore.

I would say few things.
More urbanization.
more farming and use of Pesticides and chemicals.
Destruction of their habitats.
Local insects invaded by invasive species from global trade.
