MIKE MENTZER: STATIC-NEGATIVE TRAINING https://youtube.com/watch?v=YUzvcT8tacY&si=mWAdre4YYTOFeJri
@shortstories I like Mentzer. He has been an icon in bodybuilding for some time.
Interesting take on technical aspects. Schwarzenegger techniques were based on "volume". Which served him well.
I like Mentzer because his philosophy was to maximize the result and minimizing the time spent in the gym to begin "recovery". I see novices in the gym and it makes me smh when I see they are not students of fitness or even diet/nutrition. This is what separates us from the unwashed masses.
Lifting was actually less painful for me with high volume on the legs if I start with low weight and work myself up
I found simply grabbing the heaviest weight I could and doing a bicep curl with my arms to be less painful than high volume with my arms
Where as if I tried a one rep max with my legs it would be much more painful than high volume and low weights with my legs
So my legs were in less pain with high volume low weight
But my arms were in less pain with low volume high weigyt
I found that if I start with a very low weights on a leg machine and do about 150 reps in one set I can recover well because the weight is so light but because the weight is so light it is easy to increase the weight with the same number of reps and this can be done until I can not complete it in one set
Then I would do it with more weight and less reps and work on increasing the reps until I achieve about 150 in one set again then go up in weight
The recovery was easy & maxed many machines
