I thought it was because England was so cold, rainy and dreary nothing tasty grew there. But i like the former better

They did not have good tasting food ingredients that grew in their island & they did not know how to cook well
So they had to get better ingredients from other countries & force people to teach them how to cook better
They mostly failed to learn how to cook better but will important immigrants to get better food variety instead of just training in the cooking skills while visiting another country & not importing the immigrants
