If someone were to exercise at about 700 Calories per hour than they would spend about 350 Calories per hour on carbs and 350 Calories per hour on fat. Above 700 Calories per hour the number of fat Calories per hour declines and the number of Carb Calories per hour increases.
So if someone wanted to increase their percentage of muscle mass they might want to exercise at 700 Calories per hour on an Elliptical and eat 350 Extra Carbohrdate Calories for each hour
This is a Alexander Bromley video for new lifters
And please do not do barbell bench press
A lot of people have died doing barbell bench press
You can do a bench press with dumb bells instead with less risk of death in my opinion
@Will2Power @Hyperhidrosis
Alexander Bromley in my opinion has some of the best videos about how to gain muscle mass doing weight lifting I have seen
I believe this because he mentions what he calls developmental exercises which use a longer lever arm
I believe that as long as you do not over do it, using a longer lever arm is better stimulus for muscle growth if the amount of weight is the same
Of course you might have to use less weight when you lengthen the lever arm to avoid injury
