I recently notice something, they raise the minimal wage, in turn rising prices, but keep the poverty level where it's at, that way the social programs can drop a ton of people for earning too much to qualify for the social programs
that way, if you started earning $2k a month from the raise of minimal wage, from your original thousand dollars, the landlord can come on and say " i have to raise the rent to $3k and force you to a smaller house or pot.

In addition to that any money that you saved has less value when they raise the prices of everything because they raised the minimum wage
Also people can volunteer and get paid nothing or work at minimum wage
But nobody is allowed to get paid halfway between volunteer rate and minimum wage rate
