industrial revolution, or the AI hype for that matter, are not good for humanity. yes, people will move on to do other jobs, but there won't be as many new types of jobs to be done. which means more people will compete for the same jobs, which drives down wages. that's why we have all this modern tech and still work 8 hour days, 5 days a week, instead of working less and having better quality of life.

@Justicar this logic is flawed. If there’s no innovation or technological advancement there’s no new jobs at all.

Oh and the reason we don’t have better quality of life is because the government is underfunding scientific R&D. I’ll give you a few examples that came out recently that no one is talking about and are underfunded:

- plastic-eating bacteria
- oil-secreting algae
- induced pluripotent stem cells
- reversing cancer
- artificial cartilage
- anthrobots
- cows that produce insulin milk

@Mr_Mister i disagree. in essence, manual labour is replaced by machinery, which means people need to work in services, of which there are countless types. but it still means the market will get more and more saturated over time. there is limited amount of lawyers, secretaries, managers, programmers, scientists..that the society needs. if we remove manual labour jobs, huge part of the population will become unemployable. not everyone is in 100+ IQ group, nor wants to sit all day behind a PC

@Justicar
I thought about that a lot and I agree, most people live for their jobs and don't have the clarity of enjoying their better quality of life.
Its akin to a worker drone, like those from its games. It stays idle waiting for new orders until you give them, not doing anything, not even defending themselves unless you tell them to.

Personally, I accept their NPCness and let them work, you dont have to join them - they do make our life better.
