just fyi, if you are doing any kind of aggregation of data in sql tables, make sure you have your indices set up properly. it caught me more times than i'd care to admit where i had primary key on id alone and year/month/.. were separate indices for period aggregation and ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE were producing unexpected results.

imagine being riley reid's child and one day you come to school only to learn that your mom was literally the biggest whore on the internet in 2020. i hope the parents have a subscription to the suicide line for their child.

@DoubleD i guess, the problem stems from big corporations that prioritise profits above all. well being of the society does not matter. and these companies hijack peoples' potential by doing miniscule daily jobs that do not better the society too much. otoh you can be only an employee in a company that does something good for the world. in which case your participation might be small but in aggregate it results in positive impact? it's a though concept to think about, i guess. would need more ⏳

@DoubleD i have not thought it through, just a sunday afternoon cigar kinda thoughts.

@DoubleD take small village. a blacksmith provides good value to the people in it. the impact is large. but if you scale to modern society, then the impact is abysmal.

@DoubleD so doing a normal daily job is a bit selfish in that regard. you care about your survival and that is about it.

@DoubleD say you are an electrician and you just do normal blue collar job. i think that kinda falls under no value, actually. yes, the company you work for brings value to its customers, but it's kinda 1:1. it's not like many people benefit from your work, only very few. it helps, obviously, but the impact is much smaller. i am not saying we do not need people to work in order for society to function but my point was more about way of thinking.like "i want to help better the society as a whole"

@DoubleD i think that question is not entirely correct. say you are a painter, i think that if you put your work out into the world, you are bringing in value. you are not keeping it for yourself. so in a way, you are giving value to people. though the impact is obviously smaller than if you are jeff bezos and you provide tremendous commercial value to the population. say you have a garden and you grow vegetables, if you consume it yourself, then you are not bringing any value, but to yourself.

I am thinking that purpose of life, not the metaphysycal question though, is to be creative and produce works for others. In other words, bringing value to as many people as you can. This does not prohibit one to become rich. Be a net positive to the society and you shall live a good life.

people keep screaming that markets are crashing. that we have seen the worst drop in 50 years. that we have lost $1T in a day and who knows what. all of this while i am out, in cash, watching all the stocks, that i would otherwise be in, go higher and higher.

there should be a financial alternative of a darwin award for people that keep buying range rovers.

@hareldan you presume the pairs that follow continue in the same trajectory if name=code, but i bet you that is not the case, otherwise it would be a list.

haha, i have only now noticed that i have been completely shadowbanned on hacker news. my comments were too spicy for the vaginas from california that are running it.

so i looked into the situation with cas anvar / alex from expanse, why he was killed off and essentially he was a victim of me2. he has a long career behind him so his behavior was not out of the ordinary but m2 got him into trouble. there was no crime, just allegations but that is why they removed him from the show. fucking women, man. they truly should be just a property. we'd live the expanse by now if that would be the case. moon, mars, ...oh man, so much wasted time, potential, talent.

looks like USAID is doing their work in Serbia right now....again.

@sardonicsmile real women suck dick, make babies and shut the fuck up when the man comes home from work.

television, social media and porn imposed impossible beauty standards on people, causing many people to not settle for average looking people any more, striving to be the better part of the society, inevitably ending up alone and childless. that goes for both sexes.

I think Angela Merkel was the most destructive european politician after WW2.
