They already have to guard nuclear material they are not using with armed guards to prevent a nuclear disaster

They might as well put it inside a building and use it to power things and surround that building with armed guards

But I am not sure I could support mining new nuclear material because that might result in additional nuclear risks beyond the material they already mined that they have to guard
