@shortstories There's some truth to this logic, but these type of behaviours not entirely genetic. In most cases these are maladaptive behaviours and can be corrected by resolving the underlying issue. Unfortunately this type of support rarely free and requires time to stick. This is why alcoholics anonymous and similar groups can book successes with participants.
@shortstories Not in every case. Some drugs create permament addiction. But there's a documented evidence to the idea, that todays drug problems are the result of the bans. The street drugs would be a lot weaker, if the Gov wouldn't try to ban them.

So we can fund drug rehab programs so strongly that anyone who wants to can request help so that only those who refuse help will die from giving into drug addiction
Especially if we make drugs legal and free at no cost as a public service
Whether the behavior is genetic or environmental the percent of people with the behavior can be reduced the same way
