I support Universal Basic Income that can be spent on whatever you want in place of food stamps and more specific benefits
If homeless people spend all their money on drugs and can not afford food then the next generation alive will have more self control because the drug addicts with low impulse control will have eliminated themself
Likewise if people gamble awayj their Universal Basic Income and can not afford food the next generation who did not gamble will have better impulse control
@shortstories There's some truth to this logic, but these type of behaviours not entirely genetic. In most cases these are maladaptive behaviours and can be corrected by resolving the underlying issue. Unfortunately this type of support rarely free and requires time to stick. This is why alcoholics anonymous and similar groups can book successes with participants.
@shortstories Not in every case. Some drugs create permament addiction. But there's a documented evidence to the idea, that todays drug problems are the result of the bans. The street drugs would be a lot weaker, if the Gov wouldn't try to ban them.
Same story with the alcohol ban. Instead of letting people drink safe alcoholic drinks, people ended up making stronger and far more dangerous illegal ones. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moonshine
