The way I see it is that they've already been doing it, so it's only right to do it back.

Someone brought up an excellent discussion point the other day, the Prisoners Dilemma Iterative.

The Prisoners Dilemma. 2 prisoners who can't communicate with each other. They have 2 options, to keep quiet or talk.
If both keep quiet, both prisoners will get 1 year sentences.
If they both talk, they will both get 3 year sentences.
But if one stays silent, while the other one talks, the one who talks walks free and the one who stayed quiet gets 5 years sentence.
If you choose to stay quiet, you run the risk of the biggest penalty, but would be the best outcome for you and the other prisoner. There's just no way to know what the other will choose, so talking has the highest reward.

The Prisoners Dilemma Iterative is the same game, but played on repeat. You know what the other side did last time. Let's say last time I stayed quiet and you talked. I got the biggest penalty, while you went free. Next round, I know the best move for both of us would be to stay quiet, but last time I stayed quiet, you talked. I'm not staying quiet this time.
