And that's perfect for the local face to face economy. Anything can be currency in a local economy so long as you keep building trust and adding value.
What I'm talking about is beyond that. The internet exists and isn't going away. There are currently national and international dark markets worth millions, even billions of dollars, both online and offline. And you can believe they aren't just going to go away.
Governments run or partipate in these markets too.

These systems of totalizing economic control don't end black markets, they expand and create them.
Could the govt end Monero for example? Not all the way no, but they can get close by making sure it never gets traded on any exchange. What happens then is that the market for decentralized exchanges becomes a goldmine and on and on we go.
People don't seem to understand that the CIA needs something like Monero to work just as much as those already in it.

So when you undestand this, you then have to ask yourself, if I were a criminal or govt agency with international reach, how would I continue or even expand operations?
China has a massive black market btw.
