I'm pretty sure they've been removing, updating and retconning the internet for at least the last decade.
As someone from the mid-90s era onwards, it's easy to tell.
Also, it's not like we don't have the technology to know for sure. Git/Blockchain is perfect for catching all those sneaky NYT/Wapo midnight edits and deletions.
