I thought about that a lot and I agree, most people live for their jobs and don't have the clarity of enjoying their better quality of life.
Its akin to a worker drone, like those from its games. It stays idle waiting for new orders until you give them, not doing anything, not even defending themselves unless you tell them to.
Personally, I accept their NPCness and let them work, you dont have to join them - they do make our life better.
