Ageism is primarily against the YOUNG.

this is the 3rd time in the interview process where as soon as they found out my age the pay went down or I was magically no longer "qualified" enough.

Conveniently Age discrimination against the young isn't even against the law...

@basedbagel Ageism(any isms) wouldn't exist if nepotism wasn't the primary method of securing a good job, & meritocracy was strictly enforced(with real education provided).

@fal1026

Sadly I doubt it.

Most people simply are mediocre and slow and it takes them a while to get ahead.

Most prefer a low IQ gray hair manager > a high IQ young person working above them.

I'm more than qualified for a senior level position but they just want to see grey hair in higher lvl positions and low-ball the young ppl

@basedbagel Most people subconsciously understand the old person maybe more wise/intelligent, but these days most people can't grasp the reality we live in, they just follow the retardation without questions, while the rest of us can no longer participate in it cuz we recognize what's going on, & the "ism's" are just the modern layman's explanation cuz that's all they know.

@fal1026

> old person maybe more wise

This WAS the case but society progressed so fast that you can be a young person and have way more wisdom than someone twice your age just because of the availability of information via Google, LLMs etc.

@basedbagel No that's intelligence, wisdom is the ability to use the information properly based usually on past experience, & most people like me only have experience dealing with nepotism/tribalism keeping me out of the workforce.

@fal1026

> wisdom is the ability to use the information properly

I hate to play semantics here but my point still stands

I've never been married or got into needless consumer debt because of the wisdom shared from old timers online.

I agree all the isms are a problem but my issue is ageism against the young is always handwaved away with this "too bad pay your dues" nonsense no matter how qualified you are.

@basedbagel That isn't ageism, it's willful ignorance to the change in culture, AKA "Boomer's being asleep at the wheel"(being the benefit of the doubt), & "pulling the ladder up behind them" is the malicious aspect. Believe me I know what you're talking about, having dealt with that for the entirety of my adult life.

Call it what you what I don't care as long as you acknowledge it exists.

And I truly detest these boomers that just refuse to retire or train anyone behind them.

The whole point of old people is to pass on wisdom not cling to power till they die

@basedbagel It does matter cuz citing another "ism" just makes it sound gay, & nobody wants to listen. There's a rant I wish I could've made a clip out of, I earmarked it, but it's like 3 years old at this point & need to dig to find, but it's a younger millennial talking about how his parents were just cool with the lockdowns, not noticing anything strange about anything MSM was reporting generally about the economy, he loves them, but can't have a real conversation with them about literally anything cuz they go all NPC on him, & the anger/frustration in his voice matched my own.

@fal1026

> citing another "ism" just makes it sound gay

Fair point but I come on here to have adult high IQ conversations and I expect you guys not to miss the forest for the trees here.

> can't have a real conversation with them about literally anything cuz they go all NPC on him,

Literally why I'm here.

I got written off as crazy/awkward for using my eyes 👀

@basedbagel Found the video, but he privated it, really wish I could've figured out how to clip it, he put most of the gripes we have so succinctly... 😩
