Ageism is primarily against the YOUNG.
this is the 3rd time in the interview process where as soon as they found out my age the pay went down or I was magically no longer "qualified" enough.
Conveniently Age discrimination against the young isn't even against the law...
Sadly I doubt it.
Most people simply are mediocre and slow and it takes them a while to get ahead.
Most prefer a low IQ gray hair manager > a high IQ young person working above them.
I'm more than qualified for a senior level position but they just want to see grey hair in higher lvl positions and low-ball the young ppl
> old person maybe more wise
This WAS the case but society progressed so fast that you can be a young person and have way more wisdom than someone twice your age just because of the availability of information via Google, LLMs etc.
> wisdom is the ability to use the information properly
I hate to play semantics here but my point still stands
I've never been married or got into needless consumer debt because of the wisdom shared from old timers online.
I agree all the isms are a problem but my issue is ageism against the young is always handwaved away with this "too bad pay your dues" nonsense no matter how qualified you are.
Call it what you what I don't care as long as you acknowledge it exists.
And I truly detest these boomers that just refuse to retire or train anyone behind them.
The whole point of old people is to pass on wisdom not cling to power till they die
> citing another "ism" just makes it sound gay
Fair point but I come on here to have adult high IQ conversations and I expect you guys not to miss the forest for the trees here.
> can't have a real conversation with them about literally anything cuz they go all NPC on him,
Literally why I'm here.
I got written off as crazy/awkward for using my eyes 👀
@basedbagel I guess Aaron Clarey was right when he said don’t try until you’re 35
@Mr_Mister @basedbagel
The irony is that when you get to 35, you've learned that trying to be something else doesn't get you anywhere. The best results come from simply doing what you like, are good at and can do at the highest quality.
Damn Nietzsche, he told everyone long ago that you gotta have the courage to become the man you are.
@basedbagel I've looked at how 40+ are legally protected, employers can't even try to scam them into signing a separation agreement, they are legally required to tell them they should see a lawyer. I thought "they've been around the block a few times", shouldn't they already know this?
In tech, preference for younger people is malicious: they want you to be less experienced and thus more scammable. Tech is very abusive toward engineers, it runs on unpaid overtime.
@basedbagel I hate how they see older people with 10 years doing shit job as better compared to young people fresh out of school or few years working in random job. Because nobody wanted to teach or hire you. So you take what you can.
Another thing jobs are like woman. No job is interested in you when you have no experiences. Same with women you have no experiences with women no woman likes you and avoid you. Get woman and now they want you too.
@basedbagel When we will kill old generation. If they do not share any knowledge or wisdom they deserve to die.
> thing jobs are like woman
Better watch out there you soggy kneed chauvinist.
But seriously it's true and noone cares.
They're just gonna give some back in my day BS
