Open borders and free trade make countries more prosperous because they expand markets for exporters and lower costs for importers.
Firms can specialize, compete, and upgrade with better inputs and technology, which boosts productivity and wages. Capital also flows more easily when trade is predictable.
Closed borders like in North Korea restrict imports/exports, block technology transfer, shrink opportunities for business, and raise uncertainty and shortages. That mix suppresses growth.

The only two reasons I can think of is that either they are very, very stupid, or they want their own culture to die.
When it comes to the new nobility, our politicians, I am certain it is the second reason.
@elston_ @amerika I do, as long as they do it within the constraints I specified. If they go past these constraints, I fight back.
Prime example... moslems. They want to reshape europe and make it into some kind of barbaric medieval society. This calls for fighting them. I do it by refusing as far as I can to hire them, to do business with them, and overall, to interact with them.
When I'm forced to, I always make a point of ridiculing religion, and not following their customs.

I had this specific argument about immigration.
The obvious should be obvious.
These aliens pretend to be escaping some awful conditions.
They are awful and immediately return to supposed awful place.
They are renters with no security deposit.

@Incal I don't think we'll do that this time around. I think first, we'll have us an AI bubble collapse, and then we can wisely learn from the current experiments, and once the markets recover, maybe then we'll be on track to create real AGI. LLM:s I think are a dead end for AGI.
@elston_ @amerika As a physicalist, the only "religion" I can take seriously is the mystic, where the experience is interpreted through psychology, and personal, subjective, experience and meaning.
People who try to argue that god is out there in the world, or that their god is the right one are lunatics and belong in a mental hospital.
@shortstories I find it very funny how the modern left tries to embrace both homos and moslems. It is not possible. Choose one or the other, but locking them both into the same room, we all know who will survive and who will not.

@freepatriot My man, deregulating in order to reduce construction costs would actually make sense. We can’t have things that make sense. Because Whites naturally thrive in sensible circumstances; and so any/all circumstances must be rendered senseless by every possible means at the State’s disposal.

@reallyangry @KingOfWhiteAmerica @freepatriot No zoning and no building permits required outside municipal areas/city limits are a big reason why many rural parts of Texas have stayed majority white for such a long time. As a property owner, the only things you need a permit for in much of rural Texas are if you want to drill a well or install a septic tank on a property <10ac or in a water mgmt area.

@h4890 @kibcol1049 @Jonricha You are right to demand empirical proof. In science, theory and empirical data (experimental observation) work side by side. Ultimately, theory provides the explanation, but it must be supported by the data. Sometimes, that data can be very hard to collect. Maybe a new instrument is needed, and it must be invented first. That might take a very long time. If a theory is inherently untestable, it doesn’t contribute to science. Skepticism is healthy.
