Do you think google Chromebooks will work

They are supposed to do linux somehow but have their own operating system you log into first before you launch linux I think

@shortstories @UncleIroh No . Because Chromebooks are owned by Google . So if Microsoft does that movement Google will follow . And Apple will do the same .

@ugly_bastard_reborned @UncleIroh

So what is left over?

Is there a computer you can buy that comes with linux installed that is not one of those three companies?

What about old computers with old operating system versions?

@shortstories You need to get a computer with Windows and install a Linux . Or if you have an old laptop install Linux there and learn . And move to Linux . I don't recommend doing the dual boot installing the Windows and Linux in the same hard drive . If you have a computer buy an extra hard drive and install Linux there .

@ugly_bastard_reborned

Google Chromebooks claim to be designed to be able to use Linux as a default feature

@ugly_bastard_reborned

If I am stuck with a choice between google & microsoft I do not trust either one but the chromebook has a better operating system than microsoft windows because it installs less things against your will having less software bloat and running faster

@shortstories If you have a notebook with Windows you can buy an extra hard disk and install Linux and do dual boot .

Being on linux these days is a no-brainer. There are quite a few flavors of linux that go out of their way to hold yourhand and be very user friendly.

It's actually way easier to use linux coming from windows than it is to use apple coming from windows.

I honestly have no idea what the hell TFM is talking about when he says linux is really hard and you need to be able to write code to use it. That's pure bullshit.

@UncleIroh @shortstories He is saying that Linux might cuck out .Do we need to move to TempleOS ? Do we need to move to OpenBSD ? 🤣

@ugly_bastard_reborned @UncleIroh

Why do you need to start with a microsoft windows computer and install linux on it?

Why not install linux on a google chromebook or apple computer?

@shortstories @ugly_bastard_reborned

The hardware is just as important as the software.

No chromebooks! Fuck apple hardware too.

There are decent vendors out there now who make privacy-respecting hardware. You should buy those wherever you can.

Linux is here to stay. He's talking about scary stories from the bad old days in the early 2000's when just installing FreeBSD or Debian was a major deal. Fucking around with xorg.conf for screen resolutions and backporting for corect versions, all that.

Hasn't been that way for at least a decade.

@UncleIroh @ugly_bastard_reborned @shortstories

Linux is as hard as your use case calls for.

If your computing use doesn't fly higher than using Steam and a web browser, Linux is ez and better than Windows.

Also don't send newbies into the distro rabbit hole: Ubuntu or Linux Mint for beginners and that's it.

@Wopu @ugly_bastard_reborned @shortstories

I'd totally agree with that. Mint is a great first distro, I'd put it above Ubuntu for sure.
