So when people study Tai Chi they memorize sequences of movements ( similar to Karate Kata ) but do not learn how to fight to defend themselves
They are told these sequences have secret self defense applications so you can learn how to fight
This is true to some degree but you can learn how to defend yourself much more time efficiently by just being shown techniques and then practicing a modified safe form of them with a partner
However TaiChi has sparring called pushing hands I want to do
@shortstories Watch the Final Master to learn Bart Jam Do and you will gain the wisdom you seek
Unfortunately all the places I know of that specialize in TaiChi near where I live have hard floors not mats so you can not actually do pushing hands sparring correctly because it is very dangerous to push someone over onto a hard floor so you do not dare know if you are doing pushing hands correctly because if you do it correctly you have pushed the other person over on the floor
You only have to kind of guess if they lost their balance then stop what you are doing before they fall down
