e Analects records a conversation between the governor of She and Confucius. e governor told Confucius, clearly with some pride, “in our village there is an upright person named Gong. He bears witness against his father stealing a sheep.” Confucius responded, “in my village, an upright person is dierent: father does not disclose son’s wrongdoing, and son does not disclose father’s wrongdoing, and the uprightness lies in it” (Analects 13.18).
@shortstories - I don't think I've ever liked Confucius. That sounds a lot like "no snitching".
And it's true that nobody likes a snitch... But some people would take advantage of whatever's available. The amount of people who are hurt, and the depth of pain felt... for the sake of "no snitching", is staggering. 🤔
So what could be a compromise? 🤔 All I got is chop the perpetrators head off, without snitching on them. 💁🏻♂️
So basically when a authority figure does a bad job they will not improve in a confucian society because it is like the story about the emperor with no clothes
This is why Europe had better science and defeated China, Korea and Japan invading and forcing them to trade with superior firearms
Because the leader is to be believed and not publicly disagreed with this leads to cult like dynamics
This is why feminism is worse in South Korea
Why North Korea & China are cult like
