I don't get why people put tomatoes or lettuce on burgers. They add no real flavor. I do pickles. And even though I hate onions at least I can understand that they do at least provide flavoring so it makes sense to me why someone would use it in their burger. I do use onion powder in my seasoning mix.
But why lettuce and tomatoes? They're even the most common ones. (Obviously cheese too but that adds significant flavor too.)
@TenaciousGoat I guess those things are flavorless fillers there too. I usually get more meat in tacos when I request no lettuce or tomatoes. A chicken wrap is the same for me. I just remove the lettuce and let the sauce actually get onto the chicken.
sauteed mushrooms
@Scubbie Mushrooms are a good way to go for sure. I think I'll do that next time I decide to make a burger!
Greek salad is pretty much the most awesome thing to put on a cheeseburger
Lettuce is a pale substitute but better than nothing
@mikejackmin I don't want to sound like a hippie but I'd put avocado and feta cheese on a toasted bun for sure.
Meatloaf tastes really good if you add so much ketchup that you have about an equal size of ketchup to meat loaf where it is about 50% cold ketchup by volume on top of hot meat loaf
But meatloaf without ketchup does not taste very good unless you have not had food for a long time
Ketchup is made out of tomatoes
I think borger king puts tomatoes and mayonaise on top of burgers and it tastes really good
But because of mRNA vaccines inserted to animals I might become Vegan
The Calcium from the cheese might interfere with the iron from the meat or vice versa
better to have iron and calcium in seperate meals supposedly
but that is not a realistic easy nutritional goal to achieve
I think a reasonable question is,vis the lettuce addedvto make the meat taste better or is the meat added to make the lettuce taste better
lettuce has almost no nutrition unless eaten in massive quantities but people think they are eating healthy if they add a little lettuce
Also think great depression, add some lettuce and they think they are getting more food even though lettuce is cheaper than meat
@shortstories I put a good amount of seasoning salt, onion powder, garlic powder, crushed crackers (help absorb liquid), and steak sauce when I prepare the meat for baking. Tastes great without ketchup. Bake covered in tinfoil first, then another 30 mins with the tinfoil off, to give it a good crust.
@Zettour I had not considered texture. Good input!
@N_Y_SparkyOxCable - Tomatoes add a lot to a burger. They taste bright, and cheerful - like a mid sweet citrus.
The fact that I can taste them, and that no sandwich is complete without them, could be genetic... 🤔
I'm a quarter Italian. 🍻
@N_Y_SparkyOxCable What about wraps?
