Would a sharecropping gig economy app set up like Uber eats work,for harvesting cotton, blueberries,peas etc
@Scubbie Not economically. The cost of lodge, meals and transportation to the middle of nowhere would make it way too expensive.
That's why during slavery, the owner covered these costs to be recovered over the entire year of harvest (plus the slave couldn't quit) - and that was before our crazy inflation.
@Zeb you could offer perdeim like they do in construction as a reward if you make a 50 hr week
@Scubbie Yes, the employer would have to offer more money to be worth it in any case. The issue is always how to keep your costs low enough to have competitive prices that generate profit at the end.
It will inevitably be automated (most of it already is).
@Zeb automation can destroy the bush in crops like blueberries need hand picked for more yield if no income tax I can see a gig economy viable for pickers with shitty degrees
@Scubbie True, but you would also have to scrub a lot of the other worker's protections (employer-paid health insurance, minimum wage and paid medical/parental leave) if you intend to compete in the export market.
If you close off the market then you could have some government subsidy and keep the labor laws, like France does.
