Geography plays a bigger role than one would expect too. The rich south is located on the side of Rhine River that goes from the Netherlands, France and Switzerland/Italy (good ports) easily, make them the perfect location for distribution, specially with Austria and Switzerland right across the border.
Wages, quality of life and prices are overall higher too, which attract the best talents, creating a self-fulfilling growth cycle, great for investment.
