I've been a "senior engineer" in some form or another for about two decades. I've lived in three countries and I get paid a lot for being half-way decent, and the only debt I have is ~12 more years on my house.
I typically do above the bare minimum; enough that I'm impressed by the low standards at whatever company I'm at while not becoming some kind of lynch pin in any meaningful way (I accidentally became important in DevOps, so I'm never doing that again).
Our school valedictorian has also lived in (at least) three countries, but he's never really built out his career, still doesn't own a house and is totally sucked in by a purple-haired super-left girl who cancelled their wedding a month out with no explanation and they're still together.
I am the most-mid person. It's all about tempering expectations really.
In my futile life I have seen both of these: A righteous man perishing in his righteousness, and a wicked man living long in his wickedness. Do not be overly righteous, and do not make yourself too wise. Why should you destroy yourself? Do not be excessively wicked, and do not be a fool. Why should you die before your time? It is good to grasp the one and not let the other slip from your hand. For he who fears God will follow both warnings

King Solomon understood the "middle way" before Buddah
"On policy, there is no question that Donald Trump is the most pro-Israel, pro-Jewish candidate to ever run for the U.S. presidency. And this year’s Republican Party platform is the most pro-Israel political platform in the history of the United States, on either side of the political aisle. That is why when Jewish and pro-Israel voters learn about Donald Trump’s policies, they support Donald Trump."

Bill Hwang said these things. He may have been misguided, but I think if a god exists it would indeed make sure humans are eventually honest and prudent about finance. It might temporarily involve Catholics and Muslims being against interest rates, while Jews use interest rates when lending to non-Jewish groups, and periodically forgiving debts between Jews. But I think humans are in the long run capable of managing finances correctly.
If a Bible or Quran or Torah was written today it should have a commandment against the use of excessive leverage.
