@matthew And best of all, it will probably run without modifications for 20 years!

Last evening, I spent quite a bit of time reading in "gemini space" using the La Grange application.

I am pleasantly surprised by how much there is to read there. People are still posting regularly, though the peak publishing seems to be around 2022 - 2024 (just my observation, not measured).

I do want to emphasis that I was *reading* and not just browsing. There's a very different feel to reading text over the Gemini protocol compared to browsing on the web, Fediverse included.

There's a lot less time spent scrolling and it feels more like *exploring*.

I like it, but is that just my tendency to move toward things that are lesser known and lesser used? "The path less traveled" does not always give the results that we are looking for.

I found reading on Gemini to be enjoyable. I'm not tied to that protocol as the solution to the current problems of the internet, as the older Gopher protocol is worth exploring, too. And maybe something a bit different will emerge, but if you are unfamiliar with Gemini... it is worth checking out.

@lain the EU:s policy is always destructive. It is a kingdom of incompetence!

@Val_Dyz Yawn... give them the same punishment france, greece and the others got. They can always be compensated with more tax payers money.

@Val_Dyz Brilliant! Probably deserved it too, after helping to destroy sweden.

A Swedish journalist came to film how and the built a wonderful life in without Bashar al-Assad, and ended up getting hit with a stone in the head for refusing to wear a burqa. ⚡️Two Majors

@mkoek @ChrisMayLA6 Ahh... so as always, we can then safely put the blame on journalists and leftist politicians, who thrive on the resentment.

If people were people, and wealth not made so public, we might actually achieve a harmonius society, without demonizing the rich.

@lain Rest assure, that if the world, in its imbecillity would ever agree to that, the 2 million would quickly increase, Iran would wield nukes and the entire region would be destabilized.

The key focus should instead be to remove all taxes on oil and gasoline. Tihs would be very benficial for the common man, therefore the politicians will of course never do it.

@janiehowarthmqj Ukraine joining the EU would be a financial disaster for the other EU countries. You can bet your sweet little ass that the EU will then have to pay for rebuilding an entire country.

@m0xEE You are preaching to the choir. One thing however... only 5 hours?

On my previous laptop, a 3 year old Asus ExpertBook B5, with some power tweaks, _with_ systemd, I'd get about 9-10 hours of battery life.

With my current, un-tweaked, Lenovo X13 5g, I get about 12 hours or so.

So with some powertop and TLP magic, it might be possible to bump it up more than 5 hours.

@janiehowarthmqj Who cares about what Trump says? The only reliable indicator of his will is what he does. I thought the world would have learned this by now, but apparently not. ;)

@Val_Dyz Excellent. The more russia is blocked, the better. I wish that northern europe would also cut off Königsberg and St Petersburg. This would be very beneficial! Königsberg can then be emptied of russians, and returned to Lithuania.
