Just made me think of something I read earlier. Most people know The Simpsons originated on The Tracy Ullman show. I was reading about it on Wikipedia earlier, and apparently she was frustrated that she didn't get to visit Middle America more, and wanted to represent Middle America in sketches, but the producers kept everything focused on LA and NYC.

She was seeing the same culture war in action that brought us gen x, "The MTV generation". they grew up on a steady drip of coastal elite propaganda.

(I didn't realize this till today but she is British, so she wanted to expose herself to American english dialects and accents for more authentic characters on her show)
