You might like another role playing system better

It sounds fun but it might be boring when you have to do certain things for hours and you have other stuff to do as an adult

There are also other Paper and Pencil Role Playing game systems

There is shadow run and hero system

Someone who runs a lot of these different types of games told me Hero System is the best if you want to make your own unique campaign world from scratch and have whatever custom rules you want

The mantis people are called thrikeen and they get extra attacks and a paralyzing bite but they only live a small number of years and could basically die of old age from a single haste spell

But what I like about it is it has moral environmental dilemmas and let's you combine psionics and magic in a way other campaign settings do not

They also do not have deities just dragons and their clerics use elemental powers

Well the corporate chain method that is not home brew is nothing but war or more technically battle strategy

It is basically you just fight things

But I do not like that as well

For example I tired to use stealth to cut a hole in a wall in a building with zombies and sneak up on them

Now whether or not you can cut quietly is a good question

But the other party players were like let's just attack it directly and ruin the surprise

So the purpose of paper and pencil D&D is that you can make choices you can not make in a computer game and interact with ideas with other people that people that not think to program in a computer game

So you would have to find some where where people are playing it their own way called home brew and not through the corporate system for there to be much more point than playing it on a computer

My favorite is Dark Sun AD&D 2nd edition

So I tried D&D and it was at a chain store and they would let people volunteer to be dungeon masters for no pay and people would pay for tickets

And everything was according to a script so that everything could be transferred if you play with another dungeon master

Basically you had very little variety of choices compared to a home brew game because everything had to be compatible with a shared system

It was horrible
