They could mean it is relevant because we should try to prevent another mass shooting from hapoening or numerous other potential meanings

But someone was allegedly arrested for claiming a mass shooting is relevant today in a social media post

One could also understand that he was implying that transgender people are mentally ill in a way that is less likely to get him arrested
