It's not just that, they also tend to put aside real allegations because "it's a celeb" and there's an unfortunate trope of crazy ex tries to spill dirt on a celeb. Ian Watkins got away with it for so long because of this, and what finally did him in wasn't people around him saying "this dude's a predator" but a drug bust because he was also a meth addict (which very likely fueled the pedophilia given he was also 100% a sex addict).
