A lot of writers, artists and musicians try to penetrate the cloud of complacency and ignorance through their works. If it's well-made, it might become a hit and a classic.

But I doubt making children read Lord of The Flies, Animal Farm or Nineteen-Eighty-Four really has that much impact. It's usually some kind of trauma that shatters your illusions that penetrates that cloud and makes you see the world with new eyes.

If you haven't had that experience, these works are just fiction to you. Fun to read, but the things they try to warn you about go right over your head.
