Coworker told me a story about how twenty years ago he got a job in Canada for a client I'll call Business Company Incorporated (BCI). They needed some specialty equipment for a process they had. He goes back to America after having taken all the measurements and finds a small company to work with him on finishing the design so that it could be fabricated for BCI.
That small company soon after gets bought out by ABB. BCI then gets a quote from ABB in Canada for the same thing. They literally pull out the drawing with my coworker's name on it and agree to sell BCI the product.
My coworker eventually gets an opportunity to meet the guy who made the deal. He said he walked into his office and it's a scrawny paki or jeet. Then he asks him, "What the hell man? You agreed to give me the job which I already spent time and money designing and then gave it to ABB?"
"It was cheaper that way."
"Yeah, because they stole the design I made."
"I don't understand, it was cheaper."
