the average number of working hours per employed male could decrease

or the percent of the population that is unemployed could increase & the number of working hours per employed male could stay the same

let's presume it is the 2nd & not the 1st

perhaps the economy will not collapse because although less & less people work more and more goods & services are produced per employed male

this might prevent overthrowing the system & so prolong suffering
