This is slightly different but one of the claims I heard about Left Hand Tantra in Indian religion is they believe that by sitting on or lying on corpses or touching skulls while meditating or doing various rituals they believe they can achieve enlightenment earlier

This would not require murdering anyone for the religious practice as they could take bodies of people who died of natural causes

This is sometimes different than the Thuggees who killed people for religious rituals

And part of it is paranoia about being exposed to ideas from people of other religious labels

I think there is a connection between the "Orthodox" "Jewish" Shekinah in the Kabbalah and the hindu worship of Shakti which is also connected to human sacrifice and Thuggees which is connected to the word thugs
