On a long enough timeline "bad research methodology" is a self-correcting problem.
They found that out in the USSR and Mao's China when reality failed to comply with their "science" and it ended with them stacking bodies of their own citizens tens of millions high.

Here is what you should do when someone presents you a scientific journal article to back up a claim
If the article has a mean or standard deviation request the raw data that was used to calculate the mean or standard deviation
If they fail to present the raw data then tell them since the raw data from which the mean or standard deviation was calculated was not presented, I choose to ignore that article
You should do this for any articles that mention statistical significance but no raw data

No. Methane is soaked up by deserts and to be honest, the fact they're still studying this and don't understand the mechanisms shows how much we DON'T know and how much we need to understand before making any assertions.
