The main reason is very simple - US controls NATO and Russia is too big, too physically close to Europe, too capable and too opinionated to be controlled by the US. Russia would end up taking over NATO.
Also, the US needs an enemy. Heroes need villains and world-changing dialectic plans simply don't work without an adversary.

Yes, there is also a deep ethnic hatred that Jews in power like Nuland have for Christian slavs, and that cannot be denied. It plays a part for sure.
